Raiders wearing balaclavas try to steal cash machine at motorway services near Lancaster

A number of people wearing balaclavas have attempted to steal a cash machine from a motorway service station near Lancaster.

They arrived at Burton-in-Kendal Services off the M6 in Cumbria shortly after 2am on Saturday, (October 21), Cumbria Police said.

They tried to take an internal cash machine and, when they failed, went into the shop and stole a cash register containing approximately £200.

No-one was injured and the group then drove away, the force said.

Burton in Kendal Services was closed for a time after the incident but is now fully open.

There have been no arrests at this stage.

Enquiries are ongoing and police continue their investigations.
