Award-winning Westmorland Homecare build on success with major recruitment drive across Lancaster and Morecambe
With its Lancaster branch rated Overall “outstanding” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and having picked up a Care Business of the Year award, Westmorland Homecare’s reputation has grown impressively since it was established towards the end of 2020, creating a huge demand for its in-home care packages.
As a result, a major recruitment drive has begun.
Daniel Stainer, manager of Westmorland Homecare’s Lancaster branch, said: “In September we had our first CQC inspection and were told it is nearly impossible to get a rating of outstanding if you have just started out.
“We managed to get that and are actually the only care provider in the UK with all its services awarded outstanding by the CQC.
“Our high-quality services are in high demand, so we are looking to recruit so we can help some of the most vulnerable members of society live safely in their own home.”
A great employer
“We see people as our best assets and without them we are nothing, that is why we offer what we think is the most competitive package for our staff in the area,” said Daniel.
That package includes a pay rate of up to £19 an hour, as well as mileage and a host of other benefits.
Daniel added: “We have built up a really good reputation and we have a very low turnover of staff. We want to attract and retain the best – we see them as having professional roles and so they are paid a professional wage.”
New Year, new job
Training is done in-house for new recruits through a specialist trainer. Even if a new member of staff has no experience of the care sector, they are still made welcome.
“We would say to potential recruits to come and see what we do because we are sure they will be impressed,” added Daniel.
“If you’ve never worked in the care sector before, that is not a barrier. Are you a caring person who has maybe looked after relatives or friends? Or are you looking for a new challenge or career change?”
Existing members of staff enjoy career development through external trainers brought in to deliver accredited courses and all staff are given 24-hour support when on call.
Doing things better
“We are very different to other care providers, and we make no apology for that – it is why we have become so successful, so quickly,” said Daniel.
The packages offered by Westmorland Homecare range from Companionship Care which can involve taking someone shopping, for a meal, or a walk in the park, to Personal Care which can involve help with dressing, showering, meals and medicine.
Happy staff
Daniel highlighted some of the comments he has received from staff:
“I absolutely love my job, it’s the best role I’ve ever had, and I really wish I’d joined Westmorland Homecare sooner.”
“The training has been absolutely brilliant … it was the best training I’ve ever had.”
“This is literally my DREAM job; I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
“I really enjoy my job, it’s unique and gives me the opportunity to use my skills to make a difference.”
“I truly believe Westmorland homecare have their staff and clients’ best interests at heart and are a company that really care.”
