A long-established Morecambe garage is to close its doors later this month.

Queen Street Service Station has been sold following the death of owner Dave Underwood earlier this year.

His colleagues Mark Townley and David Connor, who had worked alongside Dave for 40 years, are also retiring.

The garage had been at its current premises in Birketts Place since 2000, when the business was moved from Queen Street, where it was established.

It will continue as a garage under new owners after Dave's widow and joint business owner Angela made the decision to sell up.

"It's the end of an era," she said. "Dave served the community for 56 years, and knew such a lot of people. It's upsetting having to sell it.

Dave passed away from lung cancer on March 3 at the age of 71.

The service station will close on December 23.

The Underwood family added their thanks to all who helped make Dave’s business successful over 22 years.
