An architecture expert with a masters degree has been appointed the new project development officer for Morecambe’s Winter Gardens theatre.

Paul Jakulis will work in the Winter Gardens office three days a week. His role is to put together a business plan for the theatre’s restoration and apply for grant funding to pay for it.

Mr Jakulis previously worked in Norway on residential, commercial and governmental regeneration projects.

He received a first class honors degree in architecture and a masters from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, and has tutored in London, Venice and Berlin.

Mr Jakulis also collaborated with contemporary artists Gilbert & George at the Tate Modern and White Cube Galleries in London, and worked in Afghanistan on economic growth projects with the HRH Prince’s Charities and the German government.

Chair of the Friends of the Winter Gardens, Evekyn Archer said: “We’ve chosen him because he has worked on different projects and he’s a bright guy in his thirties.”

Several applicants were interviewed before the two year post was filled.
