Musicians from the Lancaster area are joining forces to produce a Christmas song for those affected by the floods.
James Morrison, Jamie Walker and Luke Paget have created a project called Help The North, and are calling upon anyone with a half decent singing voice to help record the song at The Grand Theatre in Lancaster on Wednesday December 16.
Lancaster district artists Molly Warburton, Amy Jo Clough, Schooltrip, Evie Plumb and others have also pledged their help to create the song.
In a race against the clock, they hope to record, mix, master and release “It Won’t Be Long Til Christmas” within two days.
James, vocalist and guitarist of Morecambe based Idol Minds, who came up with the idea after being told he would become a community leader in a fortune cookie, said: “We plan to involve as much of the community as possible in the track and we are hosting an event on Wednesday December 16 at Lancaster Grand Theatre from 7-9pm in which the local community can get involved and be a part of the track.
“We will be recording a mass choir singing along to the chorus and will be releasing a short video with these details and a snippet of the chorus for people to familiarise themselves with the track at our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/helpthenorth2015)
“We’re hoping that as many local businesses and community members as possible will get behind the project and hopefully we can make it a huge success and raise a large amount of money for the flood appeals.”
Luke Paget, drummer with Lancaster band The Feud, said if enough people turn up at The Grand he would mic up the whole theatre to get the best out of all the voices.
He said: “Everyone’s invited and there’ll be a video made on the night as well.
“If any local schools or organisations with a choir want to get involved, please just turn up on the night or contact us via Facebook.
“We really want as many people as possible to get involved.
“It’s going to be a quick turnaround on the song, but we hope to have it released on iTunes by Friday December 18.”
Digital downloads of the track will cost 99p and all proceeds of the release wil go to The Community Foundation for Lancashire Flood Appeal and Cumbria Flood Appeal.
For those wishing to attend on Wednesday, the chorus goes:
And If We
Hold On, Hold On
Together as one
We can build a dream
Yeah if we
Hold On, Hold On
The season will come
For the world to be as one
In time for Christmas
Not long ‘til Christmas time
It won’t be long ‘til Christmas.
