A SONGWRITER who grew up in Heysham is celebrating after his song went to number one in the USA following an appearance on American Idol.
Greg Holden’s track Home was riding high at the top of the American iTunes chart after Phillip Phillips performed the Americana-style folk tune as his “winner’s song”.
Over 123 million people voted for Phillips to win the glittering TV talent show, judged by a panel including Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler.
Greg was born in Scotland but moved to Heysham aged three and went to St Patrick’s Primary School.
He later moved to New York and now tours the world as a musician.
We will have an exclusive interview with Greg in next week’s Visitor.
