CONTROVERSIAL plans by Morecambe FC to hold pop music concerts on the Globe Arena pitch have moved a step closer.
Council officers have recommended that the club be allowed to hold three days of live music per year at the Westgate ground – featuring big touring names – after previously turning the plans down.
This came after police removed their initial objections to the concerts, which Morecambe FC hopes would attract crowds of up to 12,000 per day.
But the police say they still have “grave concerns” about the extra traffic the events would generate.
And they believe most ticketholders would have to travel by coach to prevent chaos on the roads.
Council officers agree, saying that five out of every six concert-goers would have to come by coach.
