The Dukes is to host the headline act at this year’s Lancaster Jazz Festival – Courtney Pine.

The legendary saxophonist plays the city theatre on September 18, fresh from his sell out shows across America, Canada and after appearing at Bestival, Love Supreme and The London Jazz Festival.

Courtney is currently touring his critically acclaimed new album House of Legends which was Jazzwise album of the year and features him exclusively on soprano saxophone for first time.

Expect an exhilarating mix of Merengue, Ska, Mento and Calypso played by an English musician with strong, proud Afro-Caribbean roots.

The Dukes will also welcome another popular name on the jazz scene during September’s festival, when Dennis Rollins brings his Velocity Trio to play.

The renowned band leader fronts this trombone-led trio with Hammond organ and drums, creating moods from funky and groovy to melodic and lyrical in The Round on September 20.

The day before, another talented trio – Swerve Trio – play for free in the Dukes Cafébar from 1-2pm.

Tickets for Courtney Pine are £20 and tickets for Dennis Rollins’ Velocity Trio are priced £5-£20 (a £1 fee applies when booking online).
