Have you been watching the ‘Big Reunion’ on TV?
It’s really weird seeing people who you thought were megastars when you’re growing up as normal people.
And it goes to show that the pop world isn’t exactly how you imagine it to be.
Our pop Gods and Goddesses aren’t being chauffeured around in private jets, drinking champagne for breakfast or having rose petals scattered before every step they make.
That programme actually shows the other side of working in the music business.
It’s a psychiatrist’s dream. All the bands are plagued with issues and unresolved bad feelings and when they get back together after years apart, all those tensions come straight back to the surface. It proves to be emotional rollercoaster for them but great telly for us!
I recently spoke to two of the stars from the show. Jimmy from 911 was on the first series. 911 are now back together attempting to make a second go of it.
Also Adam Rickitt, who is appearing on the current series of the show.
You may wonder why Adam is taking part in The Big Reunion as he was never in a band! He told me one of the biggest criticisms of the first series was the complete lack of solo stars. As a result several have joined the current series and have been placed in a make shift band.
Adam was famous in the 90s starring in Coronation Street and played Nick Tilsley the mechanic. One minute a young Nick was in greasy overalls under a car. His mother Gail then sent him to Canada to visit a relative.
Two weeks later he came back looking like a muscle-bound hunk! How did that happen in a fortnight?
It’s probably fair to say Adam was booked more for his ab muscles than his acting ability.
At the height of his fame on the street Adam went down the well-trodden path of the soap star becoming a pop star. Do you remember his top five single ‘I Breathe Again’ where in the video he was writhing around naked in a Perspex box?
Adam told me he actually hated that part of his life. He realised as soon as that song came out he made a massive mistake.
People imagine it to be a dream job and amazingly glamorous lifestyle- not so. Adam felt lonely and spend every night in hotel rooms.
And despite his good-looking image, he told me he felt really insecure about the way he looked.
