Former Carnforth High School pupil, Katy Regan, is breathing a sigh of relief after the publication of her fourth novel.
Katy who was brought up in Morecambe and Bolton-le-Sands, featured on my very first Book Club page back in April 2013 having just had her third book, How We Met, published.
I met her back then at the Midland in Morecambe which puts in an appearance in How We Met and after speaking to me, Katy was heading off into a quiet corner of the hotel to continue work on her fourth book.
She hinted at the time that she was finding it hard going and now the novel’s out in print, Katy admits: “It’s no secret that The Story of You, although I’m proud of it now, nearly finished me off, sent me into an early mass grave for defeated writers!
“But I did it in the end!”
Yes Katy did it and thanks to her for sending me a review copy.
The Story of You is a smart read which combines poignancy and Katy’s trademark dry northern humour.
It explores how one act can irrevocably change the path of a person’s life, how death and loss leave their mark, and how it’s never too late to make a pact with the past and grab your chance at happiness and a new future.
There are some dark themes – guilt, rape, teenage pregnancy, death and dysfunctional families – but then this is a true-to-life tale that had me rooting for main characters, Robyn and Joe.
The Story of You is published by HarperCollins, price £7.99, and is also available as an ebook.
