With Game of Thrones back on the small screen, Morecambe Library looks at 10 of its favourite books that have been adapted for TV.

1 Under The Dome – Stephen King

Chester’s Mill becomes sealed off from everywhere with an invisible force field meaning that no one can get in and no one can get out. As time goes on supplies become limited and the residents have to work together to find the source of the dome before it’s too late.

2 Dead Water (Shetland) – Ann Cleeves

Book five in the Shetland series has Detective Inspector Willow Reeves heading up the investigation into the death of journalist, Jerry Markham. Jimmy Perez has been out of the loop with the death of his fiancé but this case attracts his attention and he decides to help with the enquiry.

3 Junkyard Dogs (Walt Longmire Mysteries) – Craig Johnson

When a multi-million dollar development wants to get rid of the Stewart junkyard conflict erupts and it’s down to Sheriff Longmire to sort things out.

4 Raylan – Elmore Leonard

Fans of ‘Justified’ will be familiar with US Marshal Raylan Givens and in this latest book in the series he has a warrant to serve on dope dealer, Angel Arenas. The problem is when he goes to issue the warrant he finds Angel has become the victim of another crime.

5 About A boy – Nick Hornby

A story about relationships, Will is a thirty something single man on the lookout for his perfect partner. When he finds her he also has to deal with a boy she is looking after, Marcus. The book follows the relationship of Will and Marcus.

6 Bones Of The Lost – Kathy Reichs

The body of a teenage girl is found on the side of a remote highway with a purse holding an ID card for a local dead businessman. Who was she and what happened to her? Temperance Brennan is on the case and sees connections to another case of a Gulf War Veteran accused of smuggling artefacts into the country.

7 The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening – L J Smith

Elena is the school beauty and when a new boy turns up in class she is determined to get to know him better. Unfortunately he does not feel the same. When he is accused of some attacks in the town Elena stands by him and finds out his secret – Stefan is a vampire.

8 Harbour Street (Vera) – Ann Cleeves

Margaret Krukowsi has been stabbed on a busy train but no one has seen anything. When another woman is murdered a few days later Vera knows she has to learn more about the first victim to stop the killings and why are the residents of Harbour Street so reluctant to speak?

10 Watching The Dark (DCI Banks) – Peter Robinson

Banks is called in to look into the murder of Detective Bill Quinn, killed by a crossbow in the grounds of a police rehabilitation centre.
