Katy Regan’s fourth book has been shortlisted for a sought-after award.
The former Carnforth High School pupil, who was brought up in Morecambe and Bolton-le-Sands, is one of six shortlisted contenders for the Contemporary Romantic Novel category of the 2015 Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA) Awards.
Bestselling novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford will announce the winner of each of the awards’ six categories during a glittering ceremony in London on March 16.
Katy’s book, The Story of You, tells the story of Robyn King and Joe Sawyer who were just 16 when events changed their lives irrevocably. The novel explores whether they can get over the traumatic events of their past to have a future together when their lives collide again 14 years later?
Katy uses her experience of mental illness in her extended family in the novel. With more experience and contact with sufferers than many people, she had always been interested in exploring mental illness and the issues surrounding it in a book.
What really inspired the book however, was her belief that the line between so-called sanity and insanity is fragile and blurred.
She wanted to explore what would happen when someone was pushed to their limits, mentally. Could love survive?
Katy said: “I was so shocked but totally delighted to have The Story of You recognised in this way.”
Winners of each category will go forward to compete for the overall prize of The Romantic Novel of the Year Award with a £5,000 prize.
Previous winners include Joanna Trollope, Freya North, Rosie Thomas, JoJo Moyes and Rosamunde Pilcher.
