New season of live arts events at Lancaster University and across the city

Lancaster Arts has announced a season of live arts events this autumn on the theme of ‘Breathing Space’ taking place at the University’s Great Hall and across the city.

he theme has arisen from the programme Lancaster Arts has been running since April and features an exhibition at the Peter Scott Gallery with Lancashire-based artists sharing their responses to this time of pandemic.

Lancaster residents will recognise the city in lockdown in Darren Andrews’ moving photographs.

The season opens on October 8 with a concert featuring one of the world’s most sought after opera singers, baritone Roderick Williams OBE featuring an opportunity to hear two Schubert song cycles performed in the same day.

The concert programme moves to the Lancaster Priory on November 5 for ‘The Musical Sigh: From Brahms to Pärt’ featuring two exceptional musicians Samuel Staples and Jonathan Ferrucci for a special recital before returning to the Great Hall on November 26 for Tangram, the first artist collective in the UK to use Chinese and Western instruments together.

The concert programme has been curated by musician, Michael Poll who said: “In these extraordinary times it is a particular privilege to bring you some of the finest artists, both British and International, who make their home in the UK.

“The programme seeks to provide much needed balance in these times.”

Lancaster Arts is working in partnership with The Dukes to present live theatre with Imitating The Dog’s latest production on October 20 and 21 taking place on the University campus, followed by two thought provoking one-woman shows at the Moor Space on Thursday December 3 with ‘On Jerusalem’ with Avital Raz exploring the politics of division and then Rebecca Atkinson-Lord’s ‘The Class Project’ on Friday December 4.
