Saba was born in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya on June 7 on the seventh day of the week and became the seventh grandchild in the family. When she was six-weeks-old she met her first wild elephant, one of approximately 400 living in the Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania that her father, Iain Douglas Hamilton, was studying. As a child her first language was Kiswahili.
