Vicki, who lost out to a team who supporting the world’s first deaf yachtsman to sail round the world, said: “I knew I wasn’t going to win but to reach the final three in my category was a real honour.”

Vicki, formerly of the Lancaster and Morecambe Deaf Children Society, was inspired to start her journey in deaf sport after seeing the struggles of her two deaf sons James, 14, and Damian, 11.

First she set up Morecambe Deaf Friendly FC and with a lack of competitive action on offer organised Deaf Friendly Football Festivals at venues around the North West.

In 2014, Vicki expanded into cricket with a number of players in both sports going on to both regional and national honours.

Sessions for children are often attended by deaf role models and have included Great Britain footballers and England cricketers.

The award category was designed to recognise those who “selflessly devote their voluntarily time with no financial reward and efforts to enabling others to play and enjoy sport”.
