Youngster Joe Wills impressed for Matt Jackson’s men, the 15-year-old proving he is one to watch for the future with 32 not out.

Daniel Gray was the pick of the Vernons bowlers, taking 3-10 from his seven overs.

The hosts proved their title credentials in reply, James Fiddler (69), seven fours and three sixes, and Wes Royle (48) helping Vernons race to 115-1 from 20 overs.

Captain Jackson was the pick of the bowlers, removing both Fiddler and Royle, as he finished with 3-46.

But even he couldn’t stop the home side racing to victory as they finished on 181-4 in the 31st over for a six-wicket triumph.

Tom Hird, 1-27, picked up the other wicket to fall as Vernons won with relative ease, wicketkeeper James McDonagh also making 27.

The result leaves Torrisholme just outside the relegation zone on their return to the top tier with top of the table Fulwood & Broughton the visitors to Boundary Meadow on Saturday.
