Carnforth were beaten at the weekend.

Penrith took the lead from a penalty but Mathew Short levelled the game with a well-struck penalty of his own.

A late tackle saw the Cumbrians take the lead with a second penalty, before John Greenland and Liam Hall were sent to the sin bin – a penalty try was also awarded as Penrith took a 13-3 lead.

Despite being two men down, Sam Griffiths powered over for a try which was convereted by Short to reduce the gap to three points, but just before half-time the hosts scored another try to lead 20-10 at the break. Things got worse early in the second half when a Penrith penalty was converted, and this was followed by another converted try to make it 30-10.

Carnforth then received a third yellow card and were punished as Penrith scored another try to extend their lead, the conversion attempt hitting the uprights.

With 10 minutes to go Nick Hamer, Joe Harrison and Griffiths linked up to release Olly Murray on the wing, he had plenty to do but a superb run and a show of strength saw him go over in the corner for a great try.

The last play of the game saw the Penrith hooker go over for the game’s final try to make it 40-15.
