Carnforth Rugby Club are up to third in Division Four North after a hard-fought 42-29 win over Garstang 2nds on Saturday.
Jason Short grabbed a hat-trick of tries as Carnforth got back to winning ways and claimed the four points.
Garstang took the lead on two minutes with a penalty before the Carnforth pack got into their stride with Chris Whaley powering over for his first try for the club.
Moments later Sam Tomlinson burst through for his third of the campaign before on 17 minutes Short got his first of the day with Nick Hamer converting.
A big score looked on the cards but Garstang battled back with a converted try before Carnforth had the final say of the first half with Phil Metcalfe completing a fine team move to make it 22-10 at the break.
The visitors again proved they were going nowhere with the first try of the second half but Short then grabbed his second to make the lead 10 again.
Garstang just wouldn’t go away though and two tries saw them take the lead at 29-27 but the final 15 minutes belonged to Carnforth.
Short completed his hat-trick before Tomlinson took a quick penalty and beat the defence to score his second of an impressive day.
The final play of the game saw winger Steve Lomax scoop up a Graham Rich box kick to complete the scoring as Carnforth got over the line.
Carnforth have a free weekend before hosting Eccles 3rds in the Shield on October 17.
