Farnworth started strongly and it soon became clear they were going to try and steamroller the Atoms lightweight pack.

The Farnworth prop forward had a very influential game, making burst after burst through the scrambling Atoms defence, setting up the first two scores. The Widnes side extended their lead to 16-0 before Jack Edmondson made his first clean break, only to be brought down by the full back.

The Atoms retained possession against a stretched Farnworth defence and highly rated young centre Henry Higginson cut inside his man to go under the posts for his first senior try.

Farnforth scored first in the second half and some sloppy play allowed t hem to score their second try of the half soon after.

Jack Edmondson made a clean break and after linking up with Jake Harrison he went over for his first try of the game.

Stefano Cossutti scored Vale’s third try of the game after good work by Michael Forrest before Edmonson claimed his ninth of the season after collecting the ball on the run.

Farnforth finished things off with a final try late on.
