The game was abandoned early in the second period due to a neck injury to a home player with scans later giving him the all clear.
After a patchy pre-season the Atoms put in a fine display and were well in control when the game was brought to a halt.

Billy Livingstone chipped ahead for the opening score with winger Micheal Forrest picking up and diving over the line.

It was soon 12-0 after a lightning break from scrum half Jamie Cottle from inside his own half ended under Chorley’s posts.

The Panthers scored their only points on 25 minutes but Callum Hall hit back for the Atoms immediately after coming off the bench.

Jack Lawton then scored his first try of the season after a 50-yard break from Matty Humpage with man of the match Cottle then scoring his second, a superb individual try.

Jack Edmondson added another try after the break with Forrest making it four conversions from six attempts before the game came to a premature end.

Elsehwere, Heysham Atoms’ Under 14s started their new season with a 32-22 defeat to Thatto Heath in their first Division One game.
