Andy Powers was the mainstay of the Heysham innings, making an unbeaten 64 as they posted 127-5.

Powers then starred with the ball, taking 5-37, but his efforts were ultimately in vain as Westgate captain Andy Hill made 39 and Khan Puffett 21 not out as they finished on 128-9, picking up 15 points to move to the top of the pile.

Only five points separate the top three teams going into the final quarter of the season however after third in the table Arnside beat second place Shireshead by 53 runs.

Adam Richardson (32) and Sam Mackenzie (48) added 64 in 11 overs as they upped the tempo of the Arnside innings after a circumspect start.

Rowan Upton (4 for 54) snared them both in consecutive overs however as along with Jack the leg spinner helped keep a lid on the innings.

In reply Shireshead began well with Tom Jacques striking Rob Shepherd over cover for six only for the bowler to get his revenge three balls later.

Virtually all the Shireshead batsmen got themselves in but none went on to play and innings of substance as Simon Gould (26), Dave Jack (22), Danny Wilkinson and Phil Bovis all threatened.

Adam Cowperthwaite (5 for 40) was the pick of the Arnside bowlers as Shireshead were bowled out for 111 with almost 15 overs remaining.

Elsewhere in Division One there was a six-wicket win for Silverdale over Carnforth, an eight-wicket win for Windermere over Milnthorpe and a one-wicket win for Burneside over Ambleside.
