McGuinness pleased with set-ups ahead of TT

Morecambe Missile John McGuinness is pleased with his bikes and team set-ups ahead of his 20th year at the Isle of Man TT.

The resort’s Mountain Course great with be looking to add to his 23 wins on several fronts, including attempting to make it three straight wins in the electric TT Zero with Mugen Honda.

McGuinness is also pleased with the work being done by Preston-based Jackson Racing in the Supersport class and his own Superstock team while his relationship with Honda Racing, who run his Superbike, is better than ever.

He said: “The fireblade (Superbike) bike came out in 2008 and it’s just an evolution of that.

“Last year we lacked a little bit of power this year they’ve addressed that and given us a bit more power.

“There’s some more aerodynamic bodywork. We just did 204.6mph at the North West so we’ve definitely gone forward with it.

“All the things I’ve asked for they’ve done.

“It’s good. It’s dead balanced. Racing’s hard, it’s not just me on the bike.

“If you had 10 million quid to spend and the wrong people around you then you wouldn’t win anything.

“You need to all be singing from the home hymn sheet and we do, that’s one of the reasons I just signed a contract for an 11th year.”

The work with Mugen is groundbreaking with a hat-trick of race wins on the card.

McGuinness said: “It’s something in years to come that I’ll look back on with pride.

“Nobody else has been doing what we’ve been doing.

“It’s got to be another option at some stage, it has to be, it’s doing 170mph this thing from a battery.”

As for Jackson Racing, McGuinness says the family team have pulled out all the stops for him.

He said: “Alan Jackson Snr won the world Formula 3 Championship and won a TT, they’re well respected.

“They’re learning as a team with the infrastructure and everything.

“I’ve asked them for a new bike and they’ve got me a new bike and I can’t ask for any more than that.

“They do a good job for me.”
