Having spent more of the past six weeks on the Isle of Man than at home, Stephenson was justly rewarded with third in the Corlett’s 600cc race on the island.

After a solid TT festival in June, the privateer returned to the Isle of Man for the Southern 100 meeting held on the Billown circuit near Castletown.

Riding his Bob Henderson 600cc Yamaha, Stephenson set his fastest lap at over 104mph to take 11th place in the S&S Motors Supersport race, which he followed up with a third place podium finish in the final race of the meeting.

His early circuits of the Mountain course as part of the iconic Isle of Man TT in June had been marred by mechanical gremlins, limiting his practice sessions.

But the Heysham man battled back with creditable performances against factory teams, recording a top-30 finish and 120+mph lap in the second Supersport race and a top-40 position in the ‘blue riband’ Senior TT event, won by Morecambe’s John McGuinness.

Stephenson’s next race will be the International Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix at Dundrod in August, where he will be looking to add to his third place success from last year’s event.
