European Senior Tour star Gary Wolstenholme posted a two-under par 69 to win the PGA North Lancaster pro-am on Friday.

The world’s most capped amateur, who famously beat Tiger Woods in the Walker Cup before turning professional, reeled off six birdies and could even afford a double bogey at the 17th, to add to his two single ones early in the round.

The 53-year-old, attached to Kendal club Carus Green, finished a shot clear of Gareth Jones, a year into his role as Sandiway pro, and serial pro-am winner Barry Taylor from St Helens club Houghwood.

PGA Lancs is running a pro-am at Morecambe Golf Club on July 4 and Kirkby Lonsdale on July 11.
