Torrisholme bowed out of the Meyler Cup after coming out on the wrong side of a pulsating tie with Premier Division Withnell Fold at Boundary Meadow.

A flat looking deck meant that the hosts jumped at the chance to bat first looking to set a big target.

They could not have got off to a better start as Andy Butler (89) and Adam Bee (69 not out) put on more than 100 for the first wicket.

The Fold bowlers however, particularly Michael Atkinson (2-38), did not let Torrisholme run riot in the closing stages with 205-3 a good score but on a fantastic surface one that the visitors were in with a chance of chasing down.

In reply, Fold lost an early wicket and with both Matt Jackson and Dan Woods bowling well the run rate ticked, rather than roared, along.

Opener Alan Grogan batted steadily before he fell but his team mates continued to keep in touch with the rate despite the efforts of Tom Hird, Mark Cottam and Jack Heap to hold them back.

Fold lost occasional wickets but never really had their momentum slowed and it was ‘keeper-batsman Lee Fowler who played the match-winning innings to get his team over the line in 38 of the allotted 40 overs for a four-wicket win.
