In a throwback to earlier times Trimpell Sports and Social Club held an invitational sandpaper bat table tennis competition.
The rules are a combination of old and new with best of three ends played to 11 with traditional bats with no sponge or rubber.
All players played in groups with the top two from each group going forward to the knockout stages in the main event with remaining players going to a challenge knockout competition.
This year’s inaugural competition winners of the main event were Trimpell’s Toby Ellis who beat fellow club member Phil Goymer in the final.
In the challenge competition Trimpell’s Ray Carr, who played with these bats early in his career, narrowly beat upcoming junior Bethany Ellis representing Morecambe B.
In what proved to be a highly popular format a single point competition was held with Dave Smith at ease with the speed and general play of the bats, going on to win in the final against Garstang player Mike Armishaw.
Prizes were presented at close of play by league secretary and event organiser Carl Stebbing.
