Three Morecambe teams took part in the Lancaster and Morecambe Table Tennis League’s Riley Braithwaite Cup semi-finals.
It was a remarkable feat for teams entirely made up of junior players.
In the first match Matthew Cooke, Nathan Beamer and Aiden Branch in the Morecambe A team had to hold off the challenge from the C team, of Matthew Westworth, Naomi Collins and Bradley Wilkinson.
The result swung on the last of the nine sets with Cooke collecting the winning five points to take his team into the final.
In the second semi-final St Lukes E won comfortably against the Morecambe B team by 83 points.
The Saints were well led by Ray Forbes and was supported by good performances from John Allen and Graeme Moorby.
Adam Ordeonez gave the Morecambe team a good start when he won the second set of the match but St Lukes hit back to seal victory.
Coaching and training opportunities are to be expanded in Lancaster and Morecambe for ages eight to 16 years.
Sessions take place on Tuesday evenings at Ripley St Thomas Academy and Thursday evenings at Morecambe Community High School.
