Lancaster’s rising golf star Adam Stone continued his excellent 2013 by winning the English Schools’ National Championship.
The 17-year-old scratch player who has represented the senior county side this season topped the 51-strong field with a three-under-par two-round total to win by four strokes at Nottinghamshire club Hollinwell.
Stone, who will shortly travel to the United States to study marketing at California’s East Bay State University, opened with a solid 69 which included three birdies on the inward half.
But two double bogeys on the same stretch, offset by a quartet of birdies, accounted for his final round 72.
Fellow Lancaster member mate Jack Clarkson also fared well, posting a seven over par total.
Stone has now been selected to captain England Schoolboys in their forthcoming match against Wales and Scotland.
