Bolton-le-Sands’ Phil Sandham along with his driver Andrew Gallacher competed on the Granite City rally based in Aberdeen in the third round of the Scottish Rally Championship at the weekend in their Mitsubishi Evo 9.
Following the first seven mile special stage, the crew exited the forest four seconds off the pace.
Everything was going well on the next stage until an unusual late route note call from Phil found the car sideways and heading towards a huge log pile.
Thankfully the car just stopped in time and avoided damage. However the engine had stalled and refused to start for a full 30 seconds which left the crew with a massive deficit of 33 seconds.
Two stages remained and after a full on attack the crew emerged from the forest eight seconds quicker than their rivals, leaving everything on the last section where the Highland mist reduced the visibility to less than 100 metres.
The crew arrived at the stop line to find they had missed winning the class by three seconds after a high-speed run with Andrew throwing caution to the wind.
