Morecambe drew first blood in the Bank Holiday derby weekend with victory over Lancaster in TWP Wealth Twenty 20 Cup on Friday night.
An inspired Tommy Clough took six for five from his four-over spell to help dismiss Lancaster for a well below-par 61.
Morecambe were circumspect in reply at Lune Road but after a brief scare sealed a seven-wicket win with 13 balls to spare.
Visiting skipper Lewis Edge won a crucial toss, putting the home side in on a wicket that would offer plenty to the bowlers.
And it was Clough who took advantage, dismissing six of the top seven to put Ben Simm’s side in real trouble.
Ian Perrieman offered the only resistance, finishing unbeaten on 28, Suman Shrestha, pro Vishal Tripathi and Reg Cupit also getting amongst the wickets.
Mark Woodhead and Josh Dixon took no risks in reply, Woodhead falling caught and bowled to Simm for eight.
Dixon was dismissed for 17, and captain Edge came and went but Tripathi and Ryan Pearson saw Morecambe home at the expense of last year’s finalists.
