Morecambe’s poor run of form continued as they crashed to a comprehensive home defeat against Chorley on Saturday.

Batting first Morecambe could only muster 78 with Ryan Smith the only man to make an impression with a superb 45.

The visitors to Woodhill Lane then knocked off the runs for the loss of one wicket in just 20 overs.

Interim skipper and professional Vishal Tripathi lost the toss as Chorley asked Morecambe to have a bat on a wicket which looked as if it would offer some assistance to the bowlers.

The Chorley bowlers particularly Billy Smith flew out of the blocks removing Morecambe’s top three with next to nothing on the scoreboard.

Will Moulton then got in on the act, bowling an inspired spell picking up three wickets in a short sharp burst of just eight overs.

Smith seemed the only one who was able to cope with his 45 from 99 balls including eight boundaries. It was an innings of real quality in an extremely difficult situation for his side.

When Moulton claimed Smith leg before Morecambe’s slump continued as they put in arguably their worst batting performance of the season.

In reply Chorley lost David Fisher (2) early from the bowling of Gareth Pedder as Tripathi attacked from ball one.
Chorley’s Andrew Griffiths did the same however, smashing the ball to all corners of the boundary thanks to some indifferent Morecambe bowling.

His 49 not out was one of powerful hitting and was well-supported by Ian Dickinson (26 not out) as Chorley breezed to Morecambe’s total.
