Morecambe captain Josh Dixon couldn’t hide his delight after his side started the new season with a win at Netherfield on Saturday.
The 47-run triumph was achieved with contributions throughout the team, Phil Dennison scoring 65 opening the innings before Tommy Clough picked up an impressive five-wicket haul.
Dixon said: “It was a really positive result and performance.
“It was great to get up and running straight away and follow in Lancaster’s footsteps (the Lune Road side won their opening fixture seven days earlier).
“It was good to see everyone get going too.
“It’s like having two new signings with Phil Dennison and Gareth Pedder coming back into the first team. It was just a quality all-round team performance with everyone chipping in.”
The Woodhill Lane side now head into a busy bank holiday weekend with Dixon looking for more of the same. Morecambe first travel to Penrith on Saturday, May 2, before hosting St Annes in their first home game of the season on Monday, May 4.
The skipper said: “We’ll just be looking to carry on.
“There’s no easy games this year but we want to pick up points in these games and make a strong start.
“Anyone can beat anyone, there’s a lot of good sides, but we’ll certainly go into the game full of confidence.”
