After a highly successful pre-season Lancaster and Morecambe Men’s team kicked off their season with a 6-0 win at home to Rhyl.
It was the visitors who started the better with Lancaster and Morecambe looking nervous.
Goalkeeper Mark Hutchinson, on his debut, was called into action once before Rhyl were awarded a penalty stroke.
Hutchinson announced his presence by brilliantly saving the Rhyl striker’s effort from the spot.
It wasn’t long before the home side took the lead through a familiar source.
Midfielder Nick Davey, with a trademark penalty corner strike, left the visiting goalkeeper with no chance.
The lead was soon doubled when striker Phil Molyneux scored a penalty corner of his own, sending a drag flick high into the net.
Joey Davidson soon followed suit, beating the ‘keeper with a powerful low drag flick from another penalty corner late in the half put the home side in command.
In the second half Lancaster and Morecambe continued to pile on the pressure.
Molyneux doubled his tally and made it four for the home side with a narrow angle shot which was deflected by a defender on the way to the back of the net.
Davidson would add a fifth with an almost identical penalty corner strike to his first, but Molyneux would have the last word when he utilised the self-pass rule from a free hit deep into opposition territory.
The powerful striker skilfully jinked past four oncoming defenders before cooly finishing under the goalkeeper at close range.
