A Lancaster golf professional has qualified for a major national championship.
Simon Lucas, attached to Ashton Golf Centre in Ashton-with-Stodday, will play at the PGA Professional Championship at the Oxfordshire Resort in late July after coming through the regional round.
Lucas was one of seven players tied at the top of the leaderboard after carding a one under par 71 at the Delamere Forest Golf Club in Cheshire as 14 progressed from the 80-strong field.
He said: “Qualifying for this great event means so much to me and after starting off with a double bogey on the first I was happy to claw the score back.
“It was a colourful scorecard with one eagle, six birdies, four pars, five bogeys and a double.
“I am looking forward to British Open qualifying next month and currently looking for sponsorship from any local companies to help support me.”
The four-day national championship in Oxford starts on Tuesday, July 26, with players battling it out for a £90,000 prize fund.
