Lancaster and Morecambe Hockey Club Men’s 1st team travelled to league leaders Didsbury Northern Mens 1st team on Saturday on the back of a five-game winning streak.

LMHC soon found themselves two goals to the good as Joey Davidson and Tom Morgan both converted drag flicks past the static Didsbury keeper, the latter of which thundered into the top corner with ferocity.

LMHC continued to press and soon won a penalty flick when Morgan’s goal-bound effort found a Didsbury foot on the line.

This was converted coolly by Nick Davey and LMHC found themselves three goals to the good with only 20 minutes played.

Didsbury needed to find their feet in the game and this happened when they introduced ex-national league player Scott Corden.

Corden came on and immediately gave his team impetus and following some pressure Didsbury pulled it back to 3-2.

It was soon 3-3 as Didsbury won a penalty flick just before half-time which was converted with power.

Didsbury were awarded a short corner almost immediately in the second half and although Simon Mounsey tried valiantly to clear, the ball found its way into the LMHC goal.

It was déjà vu moments later as Didsbury again scored from another short corner giving them a two-goal cushion with the score now 5-3 to the home side.

McMorris then put an effort wide before he eventually got his goal after some good work from Mike Sambell and Matt Hartnett.

At 5-4 with 10 to play LMHC had hope but they couldn’t force an equaliser.
