It was a double triumph for Morecambe Golf Club’s professional Simon Fletcher on Friday, for not only was his annual pro-am tournament a major success, but he also won the event.
The eagerly-awaited competition attracted 28 teams from all over the region as well as a clutch of top professionals.
In the end it was a closely contested event, but once the scores were all totted up, Simon’s team came out top.
His other three team members were Lyndon Lea, Jonathan Rowland and Robert Darwent.
To complete Simon’s great day he came second in the professional’s competition with a score of 67, one more than the winner, Andrew Palmer.
Afterwards, Simon said: “A pro-am event like this does involve a lot of hard work, but in the end it was well worthwhile. Everybody enjoyed it and all the golfers enjoyed the course and the facilities here at Morecambe.
“I obviously was pleased with the way everything went, particularly since my team won. I was also especially pleased by the amount of support I got from Morecambe members and other local golfers. My professional colleagues were all delighted with the turn out.”
