Heysham Atoms’ senior side were left frustrated on Saturday as opponents Widnes St Maries Vikings failed to raise a team.
It meant the Trimpell side were handed a 24-0 victory, leaving them fifth in the North West Men’s Premier Division, after the Vikings pulled out on Friday.
They next travel to Haresfinch, St Helens, this Saturday, September 19.
The Atoms’ Under 14s were in action on Sunday but went down 30-24 to second in the table Waterhead in their final home game of the season.
Ike Eastwood scored the opening try of the game out wide before the young Heysham side found themselves under plenty of pressure.
The visitors scored four unanswered tries to lead 18-6 at the break.
The Atoms hit back after the interval however, the forwards made good yards with Ewan Hutchinson and Ciaran Sutcliffe leading the way before on the fourth tackle the ball went along the back line for Simon Cody to finish expertly in the corner.
Waterhead were next to score with a pinpoint kick being gathered by the lively scrum half to score under the posts but from the next kick-off Eastwood gathered the ball and after a couple of drives from Callum Brodie and Baillie Leatham, Kyle Barton barged his way over from close range.
The visitors hit back again however as the game continued to go back and forth with Waterhead keeping the Atoms at arm’s length.
Heysham weren’t going down without a fight and Brad Langhorn went over for his first try to reduce the arrears to 30-18.
And the Atoms weren’t done there as with two minutes on the clock Eastwood finished off a great back-line move before adding the extras himself.
Despite a spirited fight the young guns had given themselves too much to do with Waterhead prevailing.
Atoms: Eastwood, Pike, Cody, Clarke, Connolly, Bolland, Woodend, Higginson, Langhorn, Keenan, Hutchinson, Barton, Brodie, Sutcliffe, Leatham.
