Dave Chisnall enjoyed a confidence-boosting weekend in the Players Championship events in Barnsley as he reached the final four on Sunday after making the quarter-finals 24 hours earlier.

The Morecambe ace’s run at the Metrodome on Sunday was ended with a 6-1 defeat to Michael van Gerwen, the world number one going on to lose 6-0 to Ian White in the final.

Chisnall had earlier picked up victories over Andy Smith, Vincent Kamphuis, Kyle Anderson, Jamie Lewis and Simon Whitlock.

On Saturday, Gary Anderson knocked out Chisnall in the last eight with a 6-3 victory, the resort thrower having seen off Peter Hudson, Magnus Caris, Keegan Brown and James Richardson as he returned to form after his recent Premier League elimination.

Chisnall’s had started the triple header with a second round exit at the hands of Robbie Green on Friday, losing 6-5 in an event won by van Gerwen.

Benito van de Pas triumphed on Saturday in his maiden ProTour win.
