Dave Chisnall lost to eventual winner Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Darts Masters on Sunday.

The Morecambe ace was 4-1 up in the last four contest before losing out 8-5 to the world number one who then defeated James Wade 8-3 in the final.

Chisnall had seen off Hong Kong’s Scott Mackenzie in the first round on Saturday, the pair sharing the opening four legs before the world number nine pulled away to claim a 6-2 victory with legs of 12 and 14 darts.

That set up a last eight clash with Adrian Lewis with Chinsall prevailing 8-6 in a hard-fought contest.

The resort thrower then made an impressive start against van Gerwen with checkouts of 148 and 150 but the Dutchman responded with a 145 finish as he turned the game around with a run of four successive legs before claiming victory.

The World Series of Darts continues with the Zipang Casino Tokyo Darts Masters on July 6 and 7 at the Yoyogi Olympic Hall.

Chisnall and the PDC stars are next in action this weekend at the latest Players Championship events in Barnsley.

Elsewhere, in week 3 of the Morecambe Darts Premier League, the ‘Dream’ Jean McGregor picked up her first win of the season as she defeated the ‘Battler’ Beth Wainwright 3-1.

BDO’s ‘Con Man’ Mick Connerton produced an outstanding performance, firing in two 180s and seven 140s in his 6-0 win.

Elsewhere in the men’s section the ‘Rover’ Stu Hayward got his Premier League back on track winning 4-2 against ‘Shaggy’ Kev Wragg.

The ‘Package’ Paul Osmotherley hit a 14 and 15-dart leg on his way to a convincing 6-0 win.

There were also big wins in the men’s for Lyndon Pearce, Scott Rumer, Lee Jackson and Callum Goffin and in the ladies for Liz Akister, Julie Stewart, Chrissy Hughes and Kirsteen Smith.
