Ten members of Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club represented Lancashire and two Cumbria in the British Athletics World Trials and Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Crofton Park in Birmingham on Saturday.

The event attracted most of the country’s top cross country runners who were in action in fields of more than 300 runners.

First to race were the U13 boys and first home was Kieron Blackburn, 162nd, closely followed by James Stanley in 164th. Although forced to retire, 11-year-old William Pyle gained a good deal of experience for future races.

In the Senior Women’s race Carolyne Baxter finished 84th.

In the U17 women’s race Georgia Hannam, Lancashire, completed the 5k course in 86th position while Heidi Murray, wearing a Cumbrian vest, finished 117th.

Mary Hodgson was thrilled with 19th position in the 6k Under 20 Women’s race and was joined by Helen Ockenden finishing in 117th.

Both the Lancaster & Morecambe U13 girls selected to represent Lancashire rose to the occasion in their first selection with Erin Moffatt finishing 117th and Isabelle Woodman in 132nd.

U15 Cumbrian runner, Scarlet Dale, paid the price of going out too hard over the early hills but rallied to finish 62nd. Lancashire’s Emma Whitaker was 70th.
