Athletics: Club’s Three Bridges race attracts big field

Almost 300 runners particpated in the annual Three Bridges 10km Road Race last weekend.

Hosted by Lancaster & Morecambe AC, the race starts and finshes at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre and uses the cycle track to take the runners out to Aquaduct Bridge before returning via Mainways.

First back for the club was Kieran Rowlands, with a strong effort of 35m.49 rewarding him with third position.

In next was Mark Holgate, taking 14th place with a good run of 39m.29 and joining him under the 40 minute barrier was Lee Calvert finishing well in 39m.45 in 15th position.

Winning the women’s race in 40m.45 and finishing 20th overall was Carolyne Baxter. Followed by Lauren Gora in 45m.26 and Sarah Elliott in 46m.29.

Several club runners picked up first prize in their respective age categories. Karen Cooper claimed first veteran 45 place in 51m.12, whilst Graham Jameson was first veteran 70 in 52m.33 and Evelyn Elkington was first veteran 75 with an great 1h.03.55.

Other finishers for the club included: James Edwards 40m.11, Jon Sear 41m.15, Simon Mounsey 42m.08, William Cross 43m.47, Nick Hisham 43m.55, Simon Vaukins 44m.31, Graeme Brown 45m.58, John Riach 46m.17, Alexandra Mounsey 47m.22, David Wilkinson 48m.10, Charlie Satterly 48m.59, Rebecca Willmott 49m.02, Tracey Bruce 52m.03, Diane Riach 56m.48, Michelle Whitton 57m.11, Anne Dareys 58m.21, Ashley Toms 58m.21, Emma Carter 58m.24, Jackie Barlow 59m.04, Linda Stapleton 1h.00.08, David Powell 1h.01.16, Richard Stapleton 1h.06.06, Susan Hodgson 1h.06.11, and Janet Clayton 1h.13.08.

Elsewhere, Lancaster & Morecambe runners took part in the full and half marathon races.

In the full marathon Tony Jewitt ran strongly in adverse conditions, finishing in 3h.12.58.

The half marathon saw Phil Lowery claim fifth place out of almost 1,000 finishers, with a 1h.20.12 run also making him first veteran 50. Next was George Parrington finishing 312th in 1h.45.58, followed by Michael Roy with a time of 1h.56.40.
