WESTGATE were inserted on a track seemingly unaffected by the adverse weather conditions for the first round of the Hackney and Leigh Cup on Sunday, May 15.
Sam Calverley (1-12) kept things tight early on, but Westgate got off to a solid start with Andy Hill (14) and Peter Wilson (14).
Wicket-keeper batsman Aaron Pearce then pounced on his chance up the order and produced a magnificent innings, which ultimately proved to be the difference between the sides.
He dispatched anything loose early in his innings racing into the 40s, before batting sensibly taking the singles and easy runs on offer, before finally being dismissed for 60.
Young spinner Stef Dixon (3-30) bowled well at the death dismissing Pearce, but Heysham will be disappointed by conceding 29 wides.
Sixteen-year-olds Matty Hannigan and Dillon Conroy produced some crucial late runs to add gloss to the total.
In response, Heysham got off to a steady start, but fell slightly behind the required run rate.
