Molly makes it through to National Championships

Molly Newton- O’Brien represented North Yorkshire Schools in the Regional Finals of the English Schools Combined Events Championships at the weekend, finishing fourth in the individual intermediate competition.

Molly was also part of the winning North Yorkshire team and goes through to the National Championships in September.

On Sunday the rest of the older juniors were competing in the third round of the National Youth Development League U17/U20 competition at Stockport.

Tough competition against big North West teams brought the best out of Alex Bradley who recorded a club record in the U20 men’s discus with a throw of 26.21m.

Alex also recorded personal bests in both the shot with a distance of 8.33m and the hammer throw, recording 24.89m. Matthew Sandham also recorded a PB in the hammer with a distance of 17.31m.

U17 Joseph Twigg set best times in the 100m (14.6), the 400m (63.5) and the 800m(2:24.3).

Cross Country runner Jamie Hardy produced PBs in both the 100m (13.8) and the 200m(29.8). Liam Hinnigan showed growing maturity raising his high jump best 10cm to 1.60m. Throwing U17 weights for the first time he recorded 8.15m in the shot and 19.98m in the javelin.

Lily Garwood produced a new best time in the corresponding girls’ 100m of 13.7m and Heidi Murray had PBs in both the 100m(14.1) and long jump(3.93m). There was a PB for Millie Sykes in the 200m (32.7) and for Emma Holden in both the 800m(3:02.4) and shot (6.47m).

Athletes of the match were on the track U17 Niall Graham for a tactically outstanding 800m run and in the field, Liam Hinnigan for a huge improvement in his high jump performance.
