MORECAMBE’S Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness topped the timesheets on his first three days of practice at the island’s annual festival of racing.
McGuinness immediately threw the gauntlet down in Monday evening’s opening session with the Honda TT Legends rider setting the fastest lap of the night at 128.266mph.
Despite encountering problems on his opening lap, the 17-times TT winner was able to get back out on track and after a quick lap on his Padgetts Honda Superstock machine, two rapid laps on the Superbike late in the session saw him comfortably top the leaderboard.
On Tuesday evening, the Morecambe Missile was able to clock 129.411 to remain at the top of the qualifying leaderboard.
The following day, McGuinness became the first rider to break the 130mph barrier at this year’s event with 130.079mph, despite later saying he’d lost a few seconds passing other riders.
Yesterday, Thursday, the Morecambe man posted McGuinness a lap of 122.349 in the Supersport session, which was cut short due to an accident at Sarah’s Cottage.
The final qualfying session is tonight, Friday, ahead of the opening race, the Superbike TT, tomorrow, Saturday, June 2.
