Major youth cycling event heads for Lancaster and Morecambe

A national cycling event attracting more than 300 riders will be arriving in Lancaster and Morecambe this spring bank holiday.

The Screentek North West Youth Tour is the largest youth cycle tour in the country and forms part of British Cycling’s National Youth Circuit Series.

It’s a prestigious race with aspiring riders travelling from across the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands will be taking part.

This year’s event will also include the first ever three day stage race for Junior Women, The Green Jersey North West Junior Women’s Tour, a category that currently has very few opportunities.

The three day event, from May 28 to May 30, will test the riders’ endurance and strength as they contest various competitions including, stage wins, king/ queen of the mountains, sprinters trophies, and the overall winner.

Morecombe promenade will be closed from The Midland Hotel to West End Gardens between 11.30am and 5pm on day one as the riders complete a time-trial.

Day two will see the riders race a 3.3km stretch of closed road close to Lancaster Auction Mart, Quernmore Road and Wyresdale Road will be shut from 9am to 5pm and diversions will be in place.

The final day will take place at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre, Lancaster, where the overall podium presentations will take place.
