Leadbetter finishes second while Baxter records new personal best

At the flat and fast Pilling 10k Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club runners finished well up the field.

Mark Leadbetter was rewarded with second place with a strong effort of 35m.59.

Carolyne Baxter continued her excellent form to record a new personal best time of 37m.11, taking first female prize as well as finishing fourth overall.

Dave Wilkinson ran well, finishing 20th in a time of 46m.47.

A good number of Lancaster athletes made the annual trip up to Newcastle recently to take part in the hugely popular Great North Run.

Chris Pyle ran a super time of 1h.26.41, followed by Michael Roy running well in 1h.41.43 and Richard Holden in a good effort of 1h.50.34.

Other finishers were Helena Lewis 1h.53.47, Kathy Edge 1h.57.01, Sarah Holden 1h.59.33, David Winkfield 2h.02.27, Gill Stutchbury 2h.05.43 and Cath Mossop 2h.12.10.

The second running of the Lancaster Castle races attracted a large number of local runners, despite their knowledge of the steep climb up to the castle that faced them at the finish.

In the 10k event first club runner was Steve Worthington who ran an excellent 36m.17 to claim second place, all the more impressive after racing the previous day for the club at the Northern relays.

Next in was Phil Lowery taking third position with a great run of 37m.46 and Phil Howard took fifth place with a solid run of 39m.09.

Jayne Perry was another club runner who raced at the relays but she showed no signs of tiredness with a fantastic effort of 43m.25 earning her second prize.

Next woman for the club was Diane Riach running well in 47m.26 followed by Carole Wilkinson in 52m.55.

Other finishers were Phil Fawcett 46m.50, David Wilkinson 46m.55, John Riach 57m.08.

In the half marathon event the club was well represented by Calvin Routledge who had a cracking run to take second place in a time of 1h.23.50.

Not to be outdone Katherine Cousins won the women’s race with a superb effort of 1h.27.41.

Ben Ransome ran well in 1h.54.21 and Keith Carman finished in 2h.28.39.
