Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham schools set for county finals
Pupils from schools across Lancaster. Morecambe and Heysham are gearing up for the largest youth sporting event in the county.
After months of battling it out in a range of sports to secure places in the SPAR Lancashire School Games county finals more than 2,400 youngsters from 15 county districts are expected to take part in the event at Stanley Park in Blackpool on Tuesday, July 5.
Youngsters will bid to be crowned champions in sports including rounders, tennis, orienteering, netball, athletics and gymnastics, as well as two new sports for 2016 – tri golf and duathlon.
Bowerham Primary School will aim for glory for team Lancaster in both gymnastics and mini tennis, while Skerton St Luke’s CE Primary School will battle it out in high five netball and St Wilfrid’s C of E Primary School will go for gold in tag rugby.
Ryelands Primary School will also represent Lancaster in one of the most highly-sought tournaments – girls’ football.
Students from St Peter’s Church of England Primary School will be looking to repeat team Heysham’s success in orienteering, after the school secured gold in the sport at last year’s games, while Torrisholme Community Primary School will be battling it out for glory in tag rugby, and Bolton-le-Sands Church of England Primary School will go for gold in tri golf.
