Lancaster keep up pressure on league leaders with in over South Shore

Lancaster kept up the pressure on league leaders Longridge on Saturday with a 40-run victory over South Shore at Lune Road.

The home side were put into bat first but opener Steven Fisher only managed one run before being run out by Michael Hall with the score on 11.

Fellow-opener Joseph Hills (14) was next to go, Neil Ashford (3-46) taking the wicket LBW, and Hall (1-39) also got among the wickets not long after, removing Laurie Atkinson (17) also LBW as Lancaster were reduced to 39-3.

In came Kieran Moffat (67) and between him and Charlie Swarbrick (16) they took the score to 63, but the partnership was ended when the latter was caught by Hassan Pazeer off Ashford.

Lee Sparks (18) joined Moffat at the crease and they put on a decent partnership but Pazeer (1-25) took his only wicket of the day when remocing Sparks, Daniel Jardine taking the catch, to reduce Lancaster to 89-5.

In came Ben Simm (28), and along with Moffat they put on an excellent mid-order stand, taking the score to 156 before Simm eventually fell to Moshin Valimula (2-59), Nathan Bolus taking the catch.

Moffat’s innings finally came to an end as Valimula took his second wicket of the day, Hall taking the catch, but Lancaster were now in a promising position at 181-7.

In came Iain Perrieman and put in a real captain’s performance, his knock of 41 not out helped put the home side firmly in control.

However, James Davies (13) was caught by Ryan Adderley off Ashford as Lancaster finished on 231-8.

South Shore made a decent start in reply, reaching 58 before captain Jardine (41) was caught by Luke Phillips off (3-57).

Simm struck again to remove Bolus (14), Steven Fisher taking the catch, and Perrieman (4-25) removed Max Cowell-Makin (27) LBW to leave the visitors on 100-3.

Ashley Perera (16) was then caught and bowled by Perrieman, and the Lancaster man struck again to remove Luke Jardine (27) LBW to pu South Shore in trouble on 148-5.

Valimula came in but didn’t even trouble the scorers, Perrieman taking yet another wicket with the help of Liam Moffat to make it 148-6.

Tyne Davis could only manage a knock of four before he was run out by Swarbrick with the score now on 151-7 as the Lancaster attack started to turn the screw.

The score was soon 157-8 when Pazeer (0) was bowled by Kieran Moffat (2-17), and the Lancaster man struck again shortly after, this time taking the wicket of Hall (5) with Sparks taking the catch.

Simm took the final wicket when Ashford (15) was caught by Liam Moffat as South Shore were all out for 191.
