Lancaster and Morecambe success at Lancashire Sports Awards
The great and the good of county sport came together for the Lancashire Sports Awards at Preston’s Guild Hall with three winners coming from the area.
Lancaster and Morecambe Hockey Club were named Community Club of the Year, Susan Lucas picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award and Vicki Galt came out on top in the Service to Disability Sport category.

Hide AdThe late Ron Winn, a long-time servant of Lancaster City Swimming and Water Polo Club and the sport nationally, was also highly commended in the Coach of the Year section.
Susan was principally honoured for her fundraising efforts at Lancaster Tennis Club on Lune Road having been involved with the club for the last 30 years, raising money for the last six. She has also however been heavily involved with Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club.
Vicki has been at the forefront in of providing disability sport for youngsters in the North West for a number of years.
Inspired by her son, Vicki first set up a deaf friendly football club in Morecambe before expanding her offering to cricket and moving it around the North West.

Hide AdRon, considered one of the true greats of water polo, died suddenly in April at the age of 68.
A much-loved member of the Lancaster club, Ron guided them to more than 20 national senior and junior titles with his coaching inspiring hundreds of players including Great Britain Olympians.
The event, sponsored by Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, was organised by Lancashire Sport Partnership to celebrate the achievements of those who have been a driving force on the county’s sporting scene and included guest speaker World Champion gymnast Beth Tweddle.
