TV viewers saw Morecambe muscle man Graham Hicks narrowly miss out on the World’s Strongest Man final over the festive period.

Hicks’ Los Angeles heat aired on Channel 5 on New Year’s Eve with the BAE Systems engineer finishing third out of six, missing out on the top two qualifying spots.
Reigning champion, America’s Brian Shaw, and Austrian Martin Wildauer progressed to the final 12 as Hicks put in his best ever performance on his third appearance at the pinnacle of the sport.
In the final Lithuanian Zydrunas Savickas lifted his fourth title with Hafthor Björnsson from Iceland second and Shaw back in third.

The event capped a fine year for Hicks who had earlier come second in Britain’s Strongest Man and third in Europe’s Strongest Man.
